69Six Amazing Facts about Bengal Cats
So, do you want a Bengal cat? Saw a picture, fell in love and considering getting one? Read through these facts to see whether you and this fine feline can be a match made in heaven.
The Bengals are wild... grrrrr..... -
Well... not exactly. Here goes. Yes, all cats have wild ancestors - it's why we love them so much. Bengals, however, are not that distant from theirs. Bengals have been bred through crossings with a true wild feline, the Felis bengalensis, aka the Asian Leopard Cat back in the 1960's. When you buy a Bengal cat from a breeder, you will be getting a perfectly domesticated pet cat, but its looks will bear the wildness of the Asian Leopard cat.
Every Bengal cat is a Tabby cat!
Don't be confused, the word tabby doesn't relate to a breed. It is the name for a collection of naturally occuring coat patterns. Tabby cats have coats with one of the following patterns: striped, dotted, or blotched (marble).
Bengals have Rosettes
Bengal cats are usually dotted or blotched tabbies, but some of them display a very unique pattern: entire or partial rosettes in two shades that create a most exotic pattern.Click here to see some pretty Bengals with rosettes on their fur.
Bengal Cats Can Glitter
Yes another aspect unique to Bengal cats - their coat can have a very special golden gloss - the Bengal glitter. Not all Bengals have it, but top breeders try to bring it forward in their cats.
The Unofficial Breed?
The Bengal breed is not yet officially recognized by the Cat Fanciers Association as a breed. Other associations such as TICA most certainly do consider it a show breed!
The Active Felines
Bengals come not only with a unique look, but unique personality as well. These cats are known to be very curious, active and independent. They love their humans and bond well, but are not subdued lap cats. If you consider becoming a Bengal owner, set aside plenty of time for mutual play sessions.

Great hub! I got lost in one of the links and had to search for your hub again. :) One of my neighbors at one time had two gorgeous Bengals; the most active cats I've ever met. Got a picture my mom took of Nala stalking her and the camera! Now, we have a kitten who I'm pretty sure is part Bengal somewhere along the line.
