Cameras
can be wonderfully inspiring, creative and generally reliable toys for
all ages. In some cases, they can be far more than that. Needless to
say, while perhaps not at the top of the expense ladder, a valuable
camera which supplies us with so much can be a monstrous disappointment
if we lose it. This hub is dedicated to discussing ways to avoid losing
such an invaluable part of our enjoyment and our arsenal of work tools.
It Happens
And
it happens to everyone. And here’s why it so often happens: Typically,
we take cameras with us when we go somewhere out of the ordinary. We
want to capture events and vistas which we plan on taking in and
recording because we are certain they have the unique properties we wish
to record. Or that - in the case of our work - we simply need some
excellent recordable data, such as construction verifications, for
examples. Or it could be as simple as a garden writer needing examples
for a blog entry. The point being, we go strange places or weddings or
parties or ball games and we so often become distracted. Picture taking
is often being interrupted by events. Another thing is we can have
accidents, such as may happen on the insecure and freshly-disturbed
soils and products at a construction site. Or it could just get dark.
All it takes for you is to absent-mindedly place your camera at point A
and move on to point B.
Tactics For Not Losing The Camera - Camera Cases
I
think the primary tactic deals with owning and carrying a case. Most
camera cases have straps for securing them around our hands or
shoulders. Carrying a camera in this way gives us the freedom to walk
unencumbered as well as to get access to the camera in a short time. It
is vitally important that we actually like having the case with us at
all times we carry our cameras. It’s not even a bad idea to take some
walks prior to traveling, for example, with the camera attached as we
walk. Practicing pulling out the camera may sound like overdoing it, but
it plays into familiarity - a huge and important part of owning such a
powerful tool.
Also,
the camera case can - and in many cases, should - be waterproof or at
least water-resistant. There should not be any reason not to enjoy or
endure someone spraying water at us, just as it is absurd to think that
we won’t drop our valued parcel into a fountain in Rome.
Other Tricks
One
trick is to value what we own. The camera and how not to lose your
professional digital camera often hearkens back to distract ability. In
the hierarchy of protective senses, just as we would not lose a car, we
must consider a camera in much the same way. Small mental tricks, such
as strings or newer jewelry on our fingers - identifying a piece of
jewelry with our camera can be memory aids that stimulate us to remember
what we have in our possessions. In that respect, some people may be
less likely to lose an expensive digital camera, then one of the cheaper
varieties.
And Finally
If you can’t beat them.... What’s worked for me is simply to stop carrying my camera around and switch over to using my iPhone for picture taking. It may not replace a professional digital camera, but it produces fairly good pictures. More importantly, I’m much less likely to lose my my cellphone and it’s easier to track it down - just call it!
